Pumpkin, the famous kitty that ran our office and greeted customers for 12 years, passed away on May 25, 2012 after battling cancer. She died here at the hotel with her hotel family and her ashes will always be here at her home.
So many customers came to know Pumpkin and she greeted everyone as they came through the door. She would escort them to their rooms and walk with them to the water as if she was showing them her hotel.
Pumpkin even inspired a guest, Fran Hodgkins, to write a book about her. Fran is a full-time book editor and author and her stories and articles have appeared in such magazines as Writer's Digest, Highlights for Children, Cat Fancy, Boy's Life and The Dolphin Log and she has written several books for Downeast Books. "THE CAT OF STRAWBERRY HILL" was published for 5 years and is now located in most school libraries across the U.S.
In memory of Pumpkin, a memorial fund has been set up at the end of the year we will send all money collected to the Animal Shelters of Rockland and Camden. We also have a copy of the book located at the front desk for returning customers to sign and write about Pumpkin or just give new customers a chance to read about the famous kitty.
Pumpkin will always be a part of Strawberry Hill Seaside Inn and is missed by all her customers and friends.
